WhatsApp reportedly working on a new fingerprint authentication feature for chats

PCI NEWS: WhatsApp might soon introduce a new WhatsApp fingerprint authentication option in Android phones.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been known to work on a host of new features for both iOS and Android. Recent reports pointed to the company working on WhatsApp Dark Mode feature that has a possibility to come in the Android Q update but now new reports suggest that WhatsApp might soon introduce a new WhatsApp fingerprint authentication option that will aid in adding more security to the messaging app.

Reports from WABetaInfo suggest that has rolled out the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.19.3 update, wherein new authentication feature for Android has been spotted. Other reports suggest that the company was working to implement Face ID and Touch ID features on iOS, which were not made available because of development reasons. WhatsApp has finally started working on the Authentication feature on Android using the Fingerprint.

This new fingerprint authentication feature will be up in the app under a new section and once a user enables the fingerprint feature the app will completely the messages from others to be seen.

The report suggests that the user will have to authenticate his identity for opening WhatsApp, which will help in protecting the entire app. This feature will protect the entire app and won’t lock a specific conversation.

This feature will be made available for Android users with Marshmallow and above, followed by iOS users.
