The Crime Branch till date has arrested a juvenile and two special police officers for their alleged involvement in the case.

Kathua town and its adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown on Saturday in support of the Hindu EktaManch’s demand to handover the rape and murder case of an eight year old nomad girl to Central Bureau of Investigation for the probe.   Roads in Kathua town wore a deserted look as all the business establishments remained closed and transport remained off the roads.

The shutdown remained confined to only Kathua town and its outskirts. Vehicular traffic plied as usual on the Jammu-Kathua-Pathankot highway.

The shutdown call was given by the district Youth Congress president Pankaj Sharma and Kathua Bar Association general secretary Rakesh Thakur. It was also supported by KathuaBeoparMandal and other social organizations.

The Hindu EktaManch headed by state BJP secretary Vijay Kumar was constituted last month after Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police started investigations into the rape and murder case of the minor girl AsifaBano, who went missing from her home in January and her body was  recovered  nearly  10-days after she disappeared.

The Crime Branch till date has arrested a juvenile and two special police officers for their alleged involvement in the case.

On Thursday, Ekta Manch organized a rally at Hiranagar which was addressed by two senior BJP ministers, ChanderParkash Ganga and ChoudharyLal Singh. They were accompanied by BJP MLA Rajeev Jasrotia and Kuldip Raj.

Both the ministers sought two days from the protesters and assured them that they would take up their demand for CBI inquiry with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The minister told protesters if their demand is not met they would also join the protests.

Former Sarpanch of Koota, Kant Kumar while talking to Greater Kashmir said, “The deadline set by the ministers is expiring this evening. We will decide the future course of action after holding a meet on Sunday.”  It may be recalled that recently union minister of state in Prime Minister’s office Jitendra Singh had also supported the demand of the Manch for a CBI inquiry into the matter.
