PCI NEWS:-International Boxing Association (AIBA) on Wednesday, banned boxer Sarita Devi for one year  for refusing to accept her medal at the controversial semi-final losss at Incheon Asian Games in October 2014.

AIBA also banned India’s foreign boxing coach BI Fernandez for two years. However, cleared national coach GS Sandhu.

In the allegedly controversial Semi-final, Sarita’s Korean opponent Park Ji-Na was conferred with a winning tag  against Sarita, leaving the Indian boxer with broonze medal. Revolting at the decision made by the referee at semifinals of the women’s lightweight (60kg) competition at Incheon, South Korea, in September, Devi tried to give her medal to her opponent at the presentation ceremony. On November 26, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar had discussed the way forward with Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and urged the entire country to support top woman boxer L Sarita Devi. Instead of support pouring in from every corner of the country, AIBA has come down heavily on her with a ban.

She has already missed Women’s World Boxing Championship due to the indefinite ban that was initially imposed on her.

As per the ban orders, Sarita will be eligible to return to action by November 2015, in time for the women’s Olympic qualifiers for Rio Games in 2016.
